Fundraiser for Brisbane mum in fight for life

By Eden Best-Semple

TWO of Ray White’s leading female agents have thrown their weight behind a fundraiser to support local Warner mum Suz Cox in her fight for life.

Ray White agents, Roxanne Paterson, owner and principal of Ray White Bracken Ridge and Sonya Treloar, director and elite sales performer from Ray White Bridgeman Downs are the driving force behind a fundraiser called ‘Shine for Suz’ on February 16 at the Eatons Hill Hotel on Brisbane’s northside.

‘The story of Suz is such a heartbreaking one, so there was never a second thought to support and raise the funds necessary for her cancer treatment,” said Ms Paterson.

“I have been friends with Suz for many years and she is the most genuine, gentle, caring person you will stumble across. She has spent her life helping in communities, feeding homeless and assisting in every area in need and she is completely blown away with this fundraising event.”

Warner mother Suz Cox, aged just 34, was recently given a “terminal” diagnosis from her local doctors after an aggressive cancer had spread to her breast bone and was nudging her heart and lungs.

She had already undergone a double mastectomy when cancer was first detected in 2009. At that time with the all clear was in place, Suz and husband Phil, went on to have another baby. However, the delight of a new baby was dampened by news that the cancer had returned and this time the diagnosis was not good.

“Like so many women in the same position throughout Australia, Suz was not going to accept that there was no hope. I’m calling on the local community to come along and support this worthy fundraiser. We have some great items up for auction and I urge everyone to dig deep,” Ms Paterson said.

The search began worldwide for a possible treatment that could prolong if not eliminate the cancer that was present, and Ms Cox found a medical facility in Germany which was involved in groundbreaking work with some modest results.

“We feel that our involvement as high profile women in business, will help shine a light on this matter for women everywhere,” said Sonya Treloar, co-owner of Ray White Bridgeman Downs.

“Roxanne and I are determined to raise the necessary funds to get Suz to Germany and hopefully an opportunity to see her children grow up. It may also, if successful, light up a pathway for other women in a similar situation.”

The fundraiser on February 16 will have some big names behind it, with many well known companies donating items for a feverish auction on the night run by top auctioneer Phillip Parker and master of ceremonies, David Treloar, principal and auctioneer at  Ray White Albion.
